The characters Lennie, George and Candy use the dream as a source of power to gain comfort when they feel uneasy. Of Mice and Men Dreams help motivate people to keep moving forward with a goal in their life. In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George and Lennie travel together as migrant workers through California looking for a job. Their dream is to own their own ranch after finding a job that pays well. But impossible from the challenges that they gain along the way. In the end,. In this chapter, the gloom is relieved by the hopeful planning of the three men — George, Lennie, and Candy — toward their dream. For the first time in his life, George believes the dream can come true with Candy's down payment. He knows of a farm they can buy, and the readers' hopes are lifted as well, as the men plan, in detail, how they will buy the ranch and what they will do once it is theirs. But while Steinbeck includes this story of hope, the preponderance of the chapter is dark. Both the shooting of Candy's dog and the smashing of Curley's hand foreshadow that the men will not be able to realize their. In Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck, dreams are used throughout the whole novel. It is shown how dreams keep friendships together and happy through life, like George and Lennie. Dreams give hope to the characters that try to get out of working. They push people to do what they love and to get out of the ranch. Both Lennie and George have a similar idea of what they want for their American dream and that is to someday owning a farm. If they achieve this it would offer protection and financial care. Lennie explains their dream and says " 'Well, ' said George, 'we 'll have a big vegetable patch and a rabbit hutch and chickens. And when it rains in the winter, we 'll just say the hell with going ' to work, and we 'll build up a fire in the stove and set around it an ' listen to the rain coming ' down on the roof For three of these men, all they want is to have their own ranch to live off of and work to fulfill their own needs.


Steinbeck shows that you have to accept that not all of your dreams will come true, in Of Mice and Men, through the actions of Candy, George, and Lennie. George sticks around with Lennie even when Lennie does make many mistakes and almost puts George into danger. On page 34 George and Slim have a conversation. Throughout the whole novel, George always compliments Lennie on his work and his positive abilities. Good friends always stick by each other. They always back each other up and they always help out when one of them is in need. The reason for this is because George never gets into any type of trouble. Lennie is always the one who needs help, but in some way Lennie would help George in any circumstance. George proves to help Lennie out because Lenie is not too good with his words.


George has always want the best for Lennie and he knew that Lennie would either be tortured in the ends or get killed anyways. When George kills Lennie, it is the biggest act of respect and love towards Lennie. George never wants to see Lennie get hurt, so this is the only way he can let Lennie live a happy life without getting hurt inside. This showed that George wanted to settle down and live with Lennie for the rest of his life. George and Lennie has such a great friendship that they both wanted to live and know each other forever.
